There is only one Pathology Lab that’s accessible to medical students in all of British Columbia. This makes it extremely challenging for medical students in schools other than UBC, to go beyond their textbooks when they’re learning about diseased organs.
We’re changing that.
With a VR Lab that can help future doctors and students of the medical sciences gain access to human anatomy and pathology, no matter where they are. Through a virtual lab experience.

Post interviews with students who frequented the lab it was evident to us, that reproducing the lab into a VR environment wasn’t enough. This dank basement room, far from conducive environment for learning, had to be redesigned in the virtual world to really help students learn.
It’s a sin to be cooped up studying in a Vancouver basement, when the sea and mountains are always steps away.
Our team decided not to go with imagery from a VR library when we could shoot a view we all love and bring it into our VR laboratory.
Our client’s expectations from this product was to solely test the user-experience for one organ - the heart.
As designers, however, we built out a functional framework that scales and extends across any pathology learning module. It’s a working, user-tested product, with pre-built templates for additional content.
